From your morning coffee run to takeaway lunches, you’ve probably held one of our products without even realising it. Cullen’s moulded fibre cup carriers are everywhere – keeping drinks secure, hands free, and sustainability front and centre.

In this episode of Cullen UnPacked, we take you behind the scenes of how these everyday essentials are made – and why they’re a perfect example of how Cullen’s closed-loop manufacturing turns waste into something that works beautifully.

Made in the UK - From Waste to Worth

At our 14-acre site in Glasgow, we manufacture both moulded fibre and corrugated packaging – the only facility in Europe to do both under one roof. That combination gives us a unique advantage: efficiency, scale, and sustainability built into every product we make.

Our cup carriers are produced using kraft waste from our corrugate division. Instead of sending offcuts away for recycling, we repurpose them on-site into a new life as moulded fibre pulp – closing the loop on waste and reducing emissions at the same time.

The result? A cup carrier that’s:

  • 100% plastic-free
  • Recyclable, biodegradable, and compostable
  • Made entirely in the UK
  • Produced using a continuous circular process that saves both material and carbon.

Every carrier we manufacture is designed to hold drinks securely during transport — whether it’s a takeaway coffee, an iced drink, or a smoothie delivery. The trays are strong, stackable, and ergonomically designed for easy carrying.

Design and Engineering That Deliver

Each cup carrier begins as a pulp formulation engineered by our in-house technical team. We use precision moulding technology to shape, press, and dry the trays to exact specifications. The result is consistent strength and uniformity across every production batch – essential for high-volume use in hospitality and food service.

The process is fully automated from start to finish, maintaining tight quality control standards. Our production lines can run continuously, manufacturing thousands of carriers per hour to meet large-scale demand with rapid turnaround times.

Because we produce everything on one site, we can guarantee supply reliability that overseas imports can’t match. There are no long shipping delays, no excess freight emissions, and no uncertainty around stock availability – just dependable, UK-made packaging that keeps your operations running smoothly.

Sustainability Built Into Every Step

At Cullen, sustainability isn’t an afterthought – it’s the foundation of how we work. Every moulded fibre product we create starts with recycled kraft waste, and ends with packaging that can be recycled, composted, or biodegraded naturally after use.

By producing both corrugate and moulded fibre in-house, we maintain full visibility and control over every environmental input — a closed-loop process that demonstrates how large-scale sustainability can be achieved in practice.

Cullen Cup Carriers - Built for Confidence

Our cup carriers are trusted by cafés, restaurants, delivery services, and retailers across the UK and Europe. They’re lightweight, stackable, and designed for strength — proof that packaging can be both practical and planet-friendly.

With more than a century of experience behind us, Cullen continues to innovate in sustainable packaging design – helping brands replace plastic, improve efficiency, and deliver better experiences for their customers. Our UK-based manufacturing ensures reliable supply with no shipping delays or unexpected freight costs, and our scale means we can meet high-volume demand for even the most complex supply chains. It’s sustainable packaging made smarter – consistent, cost-effective, and built to perform.
