World Youth Skills Day (15 July) is a global observance led by the United Nations to spotlight the importance of equipping young people with the skills they need for employment, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning. As industries and technologies evolve at a rapid pace, building the capacity of youth is more critical than ever.

At Cullen, we are proud to join this celebration and reaffirm our commitment to skills development through our Apprenticeship Scheme. By providing young people with hands-on experience, technical training, and personal development opportunities, we’re not only investing in our business — we’re investing in the future of sustainable manufacturing and inclusive economic growth.

Developing Talent from Day One

Cullen’s apprenticeships are built on hands-on learning, mentorship, and mutual investment. From day one, our apprentices are trusted to get involved — and encouraged to grow with every opportunity.

  • Caitlin has completed her Diploma in Digital Application Support SCQF Level 6 certification, choosing an apprenticeship at Cullen to gain real-world experience after university. Throughout her time with us, she built confidence, improved her communication skills, and developed strong Excel and office-based capabilities — all while managing a full-time role. Caitlin now plans to stay on at Cullen and pursue further qualifications in accountancy.
  • Jason completed his Digital Application Support SCQF Level 6 certification, where he supports the development of sustainable packaging solutions for a wide range of customers. From creating prototypes to assisting with technical specifications, Jason played a hands-on role in ensuring our designs meet both performance and sustainability goals.

  • Kaitlyn completed a Modern Apprenticeship in Business and Administration at SCQF Level 6, choosing the apprenticeship route to gain real-world experience while earning. Throughout her time at Cullen, she built confidence, improved her communication and decision-making skills, and adapted to life in a fast-paced working environment. With the support of her team and fellow apprentices, Kaitlyn successfully completed her programme and is now continuing to progress with Cullen.

Each of them brought commitment, enthusiasm and fresh perspective to the business – and each has become a valued member of the Cullen team.

Their Experience, In Their Words

We asked our apprentices to share a few reflections on their time with Cullen:

Caitlin: “The most valuable thing I learned was how to manage my time effectively – balancing coursework with a full-time role taught me how to stay organised, prioritise tasks, and work under pressure.”

Jason: “Working in the design team taught me how important collaboration is – every packaging solution is a team effort, and learning how to turn an idea into a physical product has been the most rewarding part of the journey.”

Kaitlyn: “It was a great experience, and I couldn’t have completed my apprenticeship without the help and support of my teammates.”

Whether it was learning new technical systems, adapting to a fast-paced environment, or developing confidence in their role – every apprentice’s journey tells a different story of growth.

Skills for a Sustainable Future

As one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of sustainable packaging, Cullen relies on innovation, precision, and a skilled workforce to meet growing demand. Apprentices like Jason, Caitlin and Kaitlyn help us stay agile and forward-thinking, bringing new ideas and energy to every department they join.

For us, apprenticeships are more than a recruitment pipeline — they’re a way of future-proofing our business while creating meaningful career opportunities in our local community.
